Frequently asked questions

Is my StepBack Shower watching me?

No, StepBack Shower uses ultrasonic sensors to detect a user’s presence, no cameras.

My StepBack Shower doesn’t seem to see me when I step in?

StepBack Shower has two sensor ranges, the standard range is LOW,  indicated by a breathing red LED when the user is not in range. Try setting the range to HIGH by clicking the rocker switch upward. The change will be registered by the LED blinking BLUE twice. HIGH is indicated by a breathing yellow LED.

Should I leave my water valve on or off when I exit the shower?

The best option is to always leave your valve off, as you normally would for any other shower. Your pipes are capable of holding the water, but it could cause safety concerns such as in-wall leakage that won't be visible, and leaving the valve on for long periods of time is never recommended.

Why did my StepBack Shower turn itself off?

StepBack Shower turns itself off after three minutes of not detecting the user. This is to save battery.

Will I ever need to charge my StepBack Shower?

No, your StepBack Shower is capable of recharging itself from the water running through it. It contains a small turbine that spins and generates electricity. In the event of battery depletion, (such as leaving your home for 6+ months) your StepBack Shower will enter low power mode, indicated by a solid constant yellow LED. This will change operations of your StepBack Shower to a standard shower, allow water to flow and charge the battery to an operational level. Once the battery is recharged, your shower will operate as usual.

Why did my StepBack Shower turn itself on when I used the restroom/cleaned my shower?

StepBack Shower is equipped with an IR sensor that wakes it up when a user enters the shower. IR sensors react to any change in its environment and it is possible it detected you even if you are walking by. Some causes of this could be having your shower door/curtain open, hanging a towel over the shower door/rod or cleaning your shower. It is always recommended to close your door/curtain, and in the event it does wake up, no worries. It will turn itself back off after 5 min with no detection of a user.

Does StepBack Shower warm up my water?

No, your StepBack Shower in no way warms your water, it simply monitors it and stops water flow at 85 degrees.

I was taking a long shower and my StepBack Shower turned off, and then on again, what happened?

Your StepBack Shower comes with a default thirty minutes max water timer. If the water is running for thirty minutes, it will turn itself off to ensure safety. If you are still occupying the shower when this happens, the IR sensor will detect you and start the shower back up again.

What is the best orientation for StepBack Shower?

We recommend putting your StepBack Shower’s dual sensors at 6 o'clock. This is the best placement to accurately detect a user’s presence for a standard shower. If you are using a rain shower, any orientation works the same. It is always helpful to find which orientation suits you.

Will my StepBack Shower remember my distance preference?

Yes, your StepBack Shower will remember the distance you set it to. If needed you can always change it back to default clicking the rocker switch downward (given you have the sensors at 6 o'clock). The LED will blink blue twice to register the change.

Will my StepBack Shower work for my kids?

Yes, StepBack Shower works for kids, although you may need to help them adjust the distance setting if they are unable to reach the shower head. You can change the distance setting to HIGH by clicking the rocker switch upwards (given you have the sensors at 6 o'clock). The LED will blink blue twice to register the change.
